Anti-wrinkle injection is a non-surgical treatment that relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles creating a smoother, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance by blocking impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. Once the muscle is relaxed you are unable to continue to make the undesirable facial expressions forming dynamic lines.

Facial expressions are a very important component of our personality and are also the primary way we interact and communicate non-verbally with others. As well as being aesthetic pleasing, our attractiveness towards others also includes, manners, verbal expressions, body language and facial expressions . They all play an important role in our overall attractiveness, inner and outer beauty.

Although repetition over the years of facial muscle activity will generate permanent wrinkles, the transition between dynamic wrinkles becoming static wrinkles occurs in the early 30’s, when the formation of collagen is not as prominent. Of course, the formation of static lines will develop more or less at an early stage in some people.

This visible aging stage of the skin can be caused by several factors which combined can make the appearance of static lines sooner. Excessive facial expression, strong facial muscles, poor skin care, sun exposure, poor diet, smoking, and some chronic diseases can be the cause of formation of static wrinkles over time.

So why would we want to reduce or stop some of our facial muscle activity?

Most definitely, softening frown lines, mouth frown and harsh appearance, will make an individual more appealing to others. Although there is a balance to find in terms of preserving some natural facial expressions which are part of our personality.

Firstly, Muscle Relaxant treatment is a science. Being able to assess facial muscle anatomy and activity, facial symmetries, muscle strength and therefore determine the appropriate dosage to ensure good results and treatment longevity is an important skill.

Secondly, Muscle Relaxant treatment is an art to be able to achieve aesthetically pleasing results. Having a good aesthetic eye is also a complementary, but yet, an essential skill to have.

Finally, providing muscle relaxant treatments requires a great level of communication to achieve optimal results, ensuring patient’s satisfaction and building an ongoing trust. Managing patients’ expectations is a key part of this treatment. Being able to communicate with the patient ensuring they fully understand the different treatment options in terms of results and longevity Vs treatment dosage is a key to ensuring patient satisfaction.

When to start Anti-wrinkle/Muscle Relaxant injections?

As a preventative measure, using sunscreen protection and maintaining a healthy life style is the first answer. But it is never too late to start and slowdown the effects of aging caused by wrinkles.

Is there an age limit to start muscle relaxant injections?

Being ethical and realistic will prompt us to come to the decision that a person is too young to start having muscle relaxant treatments for cosmetic purpose. It is our role and part of our code of ethic as physicians to determine if a patient is too young to have such non-surgical procedures. A physical, anatomical assessment can determine when such procedures are suitable for a patient. A mental assessment is also essential to under line the motivation of a patient to enquire about such treatments. As a matter of fact, there is no age limit in terms of safety to treat patients with muscle relaxant injections. Children suffering from cerebral palsy start having muscle relaxation injections from the age of 2. The muscle relaxant dosage injected for each treatment is often 10 times stronger than dosages prescribed for the cosmetic use.

Can we reverse the formation of wrinkles?

Having regular muscle relaxant treatments in conjunction with a good skin care regime will definitely reverse then slow down aging signs such as wrinkles.

What does Anti-Wrinkle Injection treatment involve?

Anti-wrinkle injection is a non-surgical treatment that relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles creating a smoother, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance by blocking impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines, especially lines around the eye area and the forehead. A series of minute, gentle injections into isolated specific muscles blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. The anti-wrinkle injection is a naturally occurring purified protein derived from a bacteria.

Anti-wrinkle injection is a simple, non-surgical procedure which is administered by a few tiny injections. These relax the muscle contractions that cause dynamic wrinkles. It is a quick, minimally invasive, effective non-surgical procedure and involves no downtime.

Anti-wrinkles injections have been widely tested and used safely for 20 years for both therapeutic and cosmetic purpose with more than 20 million cosmetic patients worldwide.

There have been no long-term side effects of Anti-wrinkle injections reported in the 20 years of cosmetic use. There are no known permanent side effects.

How long does the treatment result last?

The effect of Anti-wrinkles injections starts to appear after 2-3 days with a full effect from 7-10 days. The results are temporary lasting on average 3-4 months. The results will last longer with repeated treatments in conjunction with appropriate treatment dose.

Repeat treatments of Anti-wrinkle injections, along with skin care and dermal filler treatments, can reverse some aging signs and slow down the appearance of further wrinkles.

What’s the difference between muscle relaxant treatments and dermal filler injections?

Muscle relaxant treatment works by temporarily relaxing the active facial muscles that cause facial expression lines and/or wrinkles.

Dermal fillers work by lifting the wrinkle or fold, and creating volume. Injectable fillers do not relax muscles, but instead they are placed beneath the wrinkle and/or fold to ‘fill-in’ or ‘plump-up’ the depression.

Muscle relaxant treatments and dermal fillers can be used together or in isolation in the treatment of facial wrinkles. The best treatment for you will depend on the area being treated and the severity of the wrinkle, both of which vary from individual to individual.
